AI for education readiness workshop
australian Universities, TAFEs and schools
As universities, TAFEs, and schools navigate the evolving landscape of Generative AI, it is essential to establish benchmarks that assess institutional readiness. These benchmarks serve as critical reference points, allowing institutions to measure where they stand in AI adoption and to track progress over time.
This workshop provides a structured framework to evaluate institutional readiness, governance, and impact in AI integration. By identifying strengths, gaps, and areas for improvement, institutions can move from reactive AI adoption to a proactive, evidence-based strategy that aligns with educational priorities.
Drawing on the Plan, Act, Adapt model devleoped by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, I have leveraged the AI Impact Navigator to help you to explore the extent to which your institution is prepared for AI integration in teaching, research, and administration. This process aims to allow institutions to move beyond internal compliance and governance to a transparent, evidence-based approach that measures AI’s tangible impact on students, staff, and the broader academic community.
The four key dimensions of the Workshop inclide:
1. Social license & corporate transparency, 2. Workforce & productivity, 3. Effective AI & community impact, and 4. Staff and student experience & their rights
By exploring these areas, we can understand how to align closely with the challenges and opportunities universities face in embedding AI responsibly. By using this tool, universities, TAFEs and Schools can assess risks, enhance AI literacy, and foster public trust in their digital transformation strategies.

Through my research, I have adapted the principles of AI governance to higher education, TAFE and K-12 settings, with the goal of institutions being able to critically reflect on their AI strategies and how they may plan towards implementing responsible AI governance that supports both equity and innovation. Why Are Benchmarks Important?
Assessing AI readiness is crucial for institutions to understand their current position in AI implementation, ensuring they are prepared for both opportunities and challenges.
Establishing clear benchmarks allows institutions to align AI adoption with ethical, legal, and governance frameworks, fostering responsible and transparent use. By setting a baseline, institutions can track progress over time, measuring the effectiveness of their AI strategies and refining them as needed.
This process also strengthens trust and transparency by demonstrating a commitment to ethical AI use for students, staff, and stakeholders. Additionally, enhancing AI literacy among educators and administrators ensures that decision-makers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to integrate AI effectively, responsibly, and in alignment with institutional goals.
