case studies for AI governance in education
about the case studies
Case studies are essential for teaching and learning about AI governance in education because they provide context-rich examples that connect theoretical principles to practical applications. By examining specific scenarios, educators and learners can explore the challenges and opportunities presented by AI in educational settings, fostering critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. These real-world examples make abstract concepts tangible, allowing teachers, learners and other stakeholders to engage deeply with the complexities of AI governance and its implications for education.
The AI Governance in Education Network (AIGE) at Victoria University is designed to offer flexible and modular resources that can be integrated into existing educational programs, support broader thematic modules, or serve as the foundation for new courses focused on the governance and ethical implications of AI in education. Contributors to AIGE case studies do not need to be affiliated with Victoria University, reflecting the network’s commitment to inclusivity and collaboration. This interdisciplinary and international approach ensures a comprehensive exploration of topics, in diverse contexts making the resources accessible and engaging for a wide range of students, educators and policy makers. We welcome case studies from teachers, academics, tutors, teacher aides and pre-service teachers, who provide valuable perspectives about diverse learning environments. Cases from early childhood, K-12, TAFE, Community contexts and Higher Education are welcomed. AIGE will be publishing case studies through 2025. These case studies are subject to periodic review, with updates commissioned as needed to ensure they remain current in light of evolving technologies, educational practices, and regulatory landscapes. We welcome suggestions for new case studies or feedback on existing ones. To contribute ideas or share comments, please contact us at janine.arantes@vu.edu.au. Your input helps us shape a dynamic and impactful resource for advancing AI governance in education.
